  1. Here we call them Chinese pennies. Your photo brought back a fond memory for me. When I was small, we lived in New York City, first in Manhattan and then in Brooklyn. We lived apartments with no gardens. My great-uncle lived on Staten Island, and my grandmother would bring me out to visit him. He had a gorgeous garden, and he grew Chinese pennies. I thought they were among the most beautiful things in the world. I rarely see them now, but when I do, I think of Uncle Dan.
