  1. Well the answer is……they are drain valves opened when the Estuary has been in very high tide or has had a stormsurge and the lanes around this village have become flooded…they open them to let the water run away…the clue….driftwood

  2. My guess is that they are filler caps for oil (or something) and the stick is used as a dipstick of sorts to determine the volume.

  3. Interesting puzzle you’ve posted here….also think the stick might be the clue…but doesn’t help me any…nice texture and color in the old valves.

  4. Whatever those very cool valves are holding back seem to be doing it well and for a very long time. I love the texture of the wall and the patina of what i assume is brass. A sea wall?
